A B.A. in English prepares students to be skilled communicators who can analyze a range of situations, problems, and texts, and offer creative interpretations and solutions. By emphasizing transferable skills, it readies them to adapt to multiple professional contexts and to meet the needs of an ever-changing world.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of a major in English, the student will be able to:
- Analyze works of literature and place them in context.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the conventions of genres.
- Identify distinct critical perspectives that enrich textual interpretation.
- Demonstrate ability in writing to show due regard for audience.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the grammar, mechanics, and conventions of standard English.

Program Required Courses
The English major (non-licensure) requires a minimum of 40 credits in English (ENG); 24 of those credits must be in courses numbered 3000 or above. ENG 1110 does not count among the 40 ENG credits required for the ENG major.
