The Social Sciences major allows students to explore a breadth of Psychology, Sociology, Gerontology, Economics, or Political Science courses. Students are encouraged to work closely with their academic advisor to develop a plan to meet their career goals. The school major may be good preparation for employment or entry into graduate programs in some disciplines such as law, management and social work. The B.A. in Social Sciences does not provide sufficient depth to prepare for graduate study in any social sciences discipline.

Learning Outcomes
Students who complete a degree in Social Sciences will:
- Understand the broad relationships and connections among the disciplines studied.
- Understand the most basic and essential principles of at least one discipline.
- Communicate their analysis of a problem or evaluation of a proposition accurately and intelligibly from the view of a natural or social scientist.

Program Required Courses
36 total credits in PSY, SOC, GER, ECN, or POL with the following distribution:
- Sixteen credits must be earned in one social science discipline.
- Eight credits in a second social science discipline.
- Sixteen credits must be at the 3000 level or higher.
- Balance of the credits selected from any of the social science disciplines.
- Courses in other disciplines that have a strong social science emphasis may be counted toward the major with approval from the Dean.
